The Friends of the West Milford Township Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity formed in 2000 to help support the work of the West Milford Township Library (WMTL).  Email us at: info@friendswmtl.org

The purpose of the Friends is:

  • to be an advocate for the library

  • to promote interest in and enthusiasm within the community for the library's resources and services

  • to raise funds for the library's needs

  • to encourage gifts, contributions and bequests to provide support for the betterment of the library

Mission Statement and Goals

The Friends of the West Milford Township Library, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization, serves as an advocate for the West Milford Township Library (WMTL). It is dedicated to promoting interest and enthusiasm within the community for the Library's resources and services, organizing programs, raising funds for the Library's needs, and encouraging gifts, contributions and bequests for the betterment of the Library.

Through its efforts, The Friends of the West Milford Township Library has provided funding for furnishings, equipment, books and programs for the Library. Counted among its accomplishments is a major contribution toward the purchase of furnishings for the newly-constructed library in 2017 and the purchase of 28 new computers for both public and professional use.

Meetings of the Friends of the West Milford Township Library

Meetings of the Friends of the West Milford Township Library are held quarterly to discuss activities and upcoming events. Everyone is invited to attend the two open public meetings in the spring and fall to encourage public input, ideas, and enthusiasm. You will meet others who share your interest in the contribution the West Milford Township Library makes to our community. Become a member to vote and enjoy other membership benefits.

Meetings take place at the West Milford Township Library and Community Center, 1470 Union Valley Road. The public is welcome to attend.

Recent Contributions to WMTL:

  • Sponsored Itay Goren, classical pianist, in a Sunday afternoon concert in the Library Atrium

  • “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” & “A Christmas Carol” performed by Jonathan Kruk

  • Renewed Brainfuse (online tutoring program) in December for 2023

  • Hosted Farm Chicks Petting Zoo

  • Participated in Autumn Lights Festival along with the Library

  • Sponsored Bob Magnuson Trio, Sunday afternoon piano concert in Library Atrium (which was the first of a series to be supported)

  • Friends Annual Book Sale at the Wallisch Homestead

  • Sponsored Ice Cream Social for the Summer Reading Program

  • Ongoing funding of Summer Outdoor Concerts

  • Sponsored a series of lectures and programs whose topics included: The Life of Robert Frost; World War II; A History of Baseball:A History of the New Jersey Shore; A History of Idylease; A History of Lighthouses; A History of Local Christmas Celebrations; A History of the Statue of Liberty; A history of the American Flag; and, A History of Manhattan Bridges.

  • Purchased IdeaPad5 laptop for Library Director

  • Purchased Movable podium with built-in sound system and shelving

  • Purchase of a Cricuit Machine and supplies for library staff use.

  • Provided electronic message boards located in downstairs and upstairs lobbies.

Past contributions to WMTL:

  • $25,000 to fund the purchase of furniture, shelving and equipment for the new library.

  • $25,000 to purchase 28 new computers for public and professional use.

  • An outdoor "drop box" for book returns.

  • AWE Early Literacy Station (TM) for the Children's Section.

  • A large display cabinet to showcase exhibits and the work of local artists and craftsmen.

  • Funding for "Monday Nights Under the Tent" - a summer concert series.

  • Ice Cream Social for the children's reading programs.

  • Sponsor for an ongoing series of lectures and programs. Past topics covered include: World War II, the Life of Robert Frost, a History of Baseball, a History of the New Jersey Shore, a History of Idle-ease, a History of Local Lighthouses, a History of How Christmas Has Been Celebrated Locally, a History of the Statue of Liberty, a History of the American Flag, and a History of Manhattan Bridges.
